GKN Freight Services Award Winners
GKN Freight Services has received the 2008 GKN Driveline Driveshafts award in the category “Performance Improvement through Production and Business Process Excellence” for effective deployment of Business Process Excellence Tools and is also a finalist in the 2008 BIFA Award in the category of “People Development”.
Both Awards were given to GKN Freight Services in recognition of effective deployment of Business Process Excellence (BPE) enabling us to raise the capability of our staff and unlock the true potential of our business by securing the contributions of our employees.
GKN Freight Services’ commitment to satisfying customers’ needs has made us a strong competitor in the world of freight transportation and supply-chain management services. To help us to build on this success we have embraced the Business Process Excellence techniques to further improve the way we work and the service we provide to our customers. This promotes not only a culture of excellence through the continuous improvement of our capabilities but most importantly enables us to meet the ever-changing needs and expectations of our customers by enhancing the service we offer and increasing our service levels.
Business Process Excellence, with its Employee Involvement structure, has allowed us to empower
each employee to improve their own processes and determine how they might best drive out waste by
deploying techniques of Lean in the office environment. This enables employees to free up time
currently consumed by non-value adding activities and create the space to focus on tasks and
actions that are important to our customers. This is, we believe, the key to developing as an
organisation capable of delivering long-term value to our customers. All improvement activities are
focused on enhancing the service on offer and asking the question: “what is most important to my
customer?”
